R.N.L.I. Lifeboat Day 2009

@ Moelfre Boathouse

Our big day is approaching and we hope you will all be looking forward to Moelfre R.N.L.I. Lifeboat Day 2009. This is one of the biggest R.N.L.I. fund raising events in Wales so please come along and join us in the fun. This year it is being held on Saturday August 22nd when we have put strict orders in for gorgeous summer weather. With this in mind we have a great deal to amuse you all for the day.

Many stalls with a huge array of stock, from Jewellery, Cards, Dolls, Gifts, 2nd hand goods, handicrafts, tombolas, Gardening supplies, children’s wear etc. There will be funfair rides for the children and we will also have a magician for a short period of time at a time to be announced later and face painting. There will be the usual fancy dress for the children and a disco after the day’s events. We will be choosing a local Lifeboat princess and Mascot for the year 2009.

Helen’s Wool Shop will be open for knitting wool and patterns and our local gift shop Twm Pen Stryd well stocked as usual and serving food in the café behind. The Moelfre Stores will be open, and the Wheel and Anchor Fish and Chips Restaurant, along with Ann’s Pantry and the local Pubs, the Kinmel Arms and Oak Lodge. Laura’s Caban will be open on the sea front in the heart of the activities. With so many people visiting the village we will also have the Hog Roast man and other food outlets. Free parking will be provided in the field opposite the Oak Lodge [donations gratefully received].

Reckless Elbow & Pigs Ear providing the music as normal and our comperes for the day will provide us with much entertainment.

The Army is providing us with an assault course for the children for the first time and it is anticipated that this will be very popular. This will be held in the big field close to the Lifeboat Station.

The boathouse will be open from 10 am and guided tours of the boathouse will be given with an opportunity for photographs to be taken with boat and crew. The boats launch quite late this year due to the tide and this is around 12.30pm. After this is the usual display from the rescue squad and conditions and weather permitting we may have the helicopter.

Eventually fun and games from the Lifeboats and local boats, don’t go into the fray if you wish to stay dry. I have my suspicions that last year the local boats won!.
